78th marathon in 78 days completed

Mile 1 - 52 degrees and cloudy with a high in the low 60s today. Yet another day with perfect running weather...

Mile 2 - Almost twelve minutes into my run I check my runmeter to see how close I am to starting mile two and it shows that I have been running for almost twelve minutes but have only gone 2/10ths of a mile! It just stopped itself again!...

Mile 3 - That is one great thing about a treadmill, at least every mile is tracked...

Mile 4 - That and I am always close to a bathroom (and coffee!)...

Mile 5 - Which just so happens to be one of my greatest challenges, finding bathrooms!...

Mile 6 - One of the true luxuries of running an event is having port-a-potties conveniently spaced through out the 26.2 mile route...

Mile 7 - It always is the little things in life we take for granted!...

Mile 8 - Finally made it down to the river...

Miles 9 through 12 - One very smart decision I have made recently is to make this journey as easy as possible, or to re-phrase it, not make it any more difficult than it needs to be...

Miles 13 through 15 - So when the weather turns nasty, I am hitting the treadmill. My journey is about running the equivalent of a marathon every single day for 365 days. I do not get any extra points for running in miserable conditions!....

Mile 16 - This morning's run started perfect. By mile six it began to rain and get very cold. My hands were actually getting numb. For what?!...

Mile 17 - So I headed back to the south and after eleven and a half miles outside, I hit the treadmill...

Mile 18 - My fifteen year old daughter has finals this week and only had one class today, so I get to spend a few extra hours with her before I go to work...

Mile 19 - Once today is gone, it is gone forever, we never get it back...

Mile 20 - It is so important that one day at a time we balance our lives as if each day was our last...

Mile 21 - Life is too short. We must make each and everyday count...

Mile 22 - Feet still sore but the treadmill is helping soften the impact a bit...

Mile 23 - I am determined to get my feet accustomed to this kind of daily mileage...

Mile 24 - I truly believed in the beginning this would get easier as the weeks passed. In terms of stamina and endurance it has...

Mile 25 - In terms of my feet, it has not. Yet!...

Mile 26 - I have come to accept that this is one of those things that gets harder before it gets easier!

26.2 miles completed.  Again.

I have completed a full marathon seven days a week, whether I felt like it or not, as a platform for a book that I spent 9 years working on.

The message of the book is that we can do pretty much anything ONE DAY AT A TIME.  The book is not about running, it is about improving.  It is about getting better at anything we want to improve at by making small incremental improvements that make the difficult things not only achievable, but relatively easy.

This book was written for anyone who desires to get motivated and more importantly discover how easy it can be to STAY motivated.

Anyone can get motivated, very few can stay motivated.  I am giving this book the epic platform that it deserves because I believe that staying motivating is the bridge between dreams and reality.

77th marathon in 77 days completed

Mile 1 - 7 a.m. start time - 52 degrees and cloudy with a high of 64! That's running weather!

Mile 2 - I just passed a flag that was fluttering lightly in the breeze and could not help but smile. The wind has been kicking my arse this last week...

Mile 3 - Starting to see some blue skies already...

Mile 4 - I tried something different this morning. I ate breakfast before my run!...

Mile 5 - I usually just take in coffee, water, almonds and chia seeds (by the spoonful!)...

Mile 6 - This morning I decided to fuel up and see if that may help my energy levels throughout the run today...

Mile 7 - As obvious as that does sound, food tends to make me tired. I keep my calories up by eating a lot of raw almonds...

Mile 8 - So pre-run I had four waffles covered in peanut butter, syrup and chia seeds!...

Mile 9 - One thing I know that helps is my slow pace. I would not want to eat like that and run hard...

Mile 10 - Just Left the marsh, it sounded like an aviary in there!...

Mile 11 - Back into the city streets...

Mile 12 - Heading to the house to pick up my wingman...

Mile 13 - It is still only 55 degrees. Perfect running temp...

Mile 14 - Now for the second half...

Mile 15 - The wind has picked up again considerably...

Mile 16 - Now I just have to try and keep up with the youngster!...

Mile 17 - When I do keep up he makes a great wind block!...

Mile 18 - Time for us to cross the mighty Mississippi...

Miles 19, 20 & 21 - Blogger app locked up again. Had to re-load app...

Mile 22, 23 & 24 - Not a good blogging day. This new app has been bugging out as well. I have to keep re-writing...

Mile 25 - Almost there!...

Mile 26 - Looks like we'll be eating waffles again tomorrow (covered in cjia seeds of course!).

After a quick shower I am off to work so I will be editing and matching pictures with their corresponding miles around 10:30 p.m. Central time.

Have a great day and thank you for the continued encouragement.

76th marathon in 76 days completed

Mile 1 - 9 a.m. start time. 63 degrees with a high of 70. Not a cloud in the sky...

Mile 2 - Another day with high winds...

Mile 3 - Wearing two pairs of socks to see if that helps the feet!...

Mile 4 - Just me and Jimmy Buffett right now...

Mile 5 - This wind is stronger than I had thought...

Mile 6 - I have seen four large turtles already this morning!...

Mile 7 - I am definitely feeling sluggish today...

Mile 8 - Must not have had enough coffee this morning or too little of sleep last night...

Mile 9 - I have come to the conclusion that the level of difficulty of each run is directly proportionate to how well rested I am or am not!...

Mile 10 - Not sure if it is because of running in the high temps the last few days or the high winds. But I have no energy right now!!!

Mile 11 - The good news is that I only have fifteen miles left to run today!...

Mile 12 - Of course, since my energy is crashed out, so is my motivation....

Mile 13 - Today has officially become one of the days that I think this is nuts!...

Mile 14 - Days like today, I do not continue because of my desire to run...

Mile 15 - Though I almost always feel better after a run than before it...

Mile 16 -The ONLY thing that keeps me going on days like today, when I I am physically AND mentally drained, is my refusal to quit...

Mile 17 - Kahlen is joining me now and can keep me moving...

Mile 18 - The wind is out of the north, so we will run straight north until mile marker 21 then head back south...

Mile 19 - At least I do not have to worry about running out of energy for today's run...

Mile 20 - I never had any!!!...

Mile 21 - Time for some trails...

Mile 22 - Heading into the marsh...

Mile 23 - Finally heading back to the south...

Miles 24, 25 and 26 - Today's run took so long, my i-phone battery almost went dead.  I held off on updating the blog until I got back to the house so my runmeter app would not go dead.  After the heat and high winds of the last few days as well as very little sleep last night, by time I was at mile 24 I literally felt like I had run fifty miles.  From beginning to end this entire run was pure willpower.

75th marathon in 75 days completed

Mile 1 - Starting today's marathon at 1:35 in the afternoon...

Mile 2 - 82 degrees, sunny and humid...

Mile 3 - I am planning on running at least a half marathon outside today then whatever remains inside on the treadmill...

Mile 4 - Kahlen, my 20 year old son, is running his first half marathon with me today...

Mile 5 - He just started running this month!...

Mile 6 - The biggest challenge for him is running at my pace, but it is also what has allowed him to increase his mileage so quickly...

Mile 7 - I am lucky to have the family that I have...

Mile 8 - Which is also why I am running the last few hours of today's run inside. So I can watch a movie with my 15 daughter while I run...

Mile 9 - Today is all we ever have...

Mile 10 - As for me, my goal is to complete a marathon per day and spend as much time with my family as possible...

Mile 11 - Heading back to the south...

Mile 12 - Today's wind is out of the west, so it is pretty much a non-factor...

Mile 13 - Kahlen has managed to stay ahead of me for the full thirteen miles and the 82 degrees is not exactly ideal for his first half-marathon...

Mile 14 - Up until today, the farthest Kahlen has run is nine miles...

Mile 15 - Today he completed exactly 15 miles and stayed just ahead of me the whole way!...

Mile 16 - On to the treadmill...

Mile 17 - This is actually good for my feet...

Mile 18 - After spending so much time on the street, this is a good change up...

Mile 19 - Setting the treadmill at a bit of an incline is another way to make the streets a little easier...

Mile 20 - Legs are feeling good so far today...

Mile 21 - Feet still feeling the pain...

Mile 22 - Last night's extra rest helped with today's run...

Mile 23 - Time to put another movie in!...

Mile 24 - Watching "Invictus" this evening with Morgan Freeman playing Nelson Mandela....

Mile 25 - What a great day, I am able to complete a marathon yet spend the entire day with family!...

Mile 26 - The final mile of marathon number 75 in as many days to raise awareness to one of the greatest causes of all... Personal Development. Challenge to improve you. One day at a time you have no idea what you are capable and all that ever matters is what you do today.

I am dedicating my 75th marathon to Terry Hitchcock, who's book and story inspired me three years ago to do what I am doing today as well as the three years of preparation.  Help me show Terry my appreciation by checking out his Facebook Fan page and let him know I sent you...

74th marathon in 74 days completed

\Mile 1 - Starting time 7:00 a.m. 63 degrees with a cool breeze out of the south. The forecast for today is in the 90's!!!...

Mile 2 - Plenty of sunshine already! It's gonna be a scorcher...

Mile 3 - Almost there!...

Mile 4 - I continue to be amazed at the number of volunteers that come out in a Sunday morning to support the runners...

Mile 5 - Another marathon for Eddie Izzard for Nelson Mandela. Because of unforeseen medical complications Eddie had to abandon his challenge to run 27 marathons in 27 days for Mandela...

MILE 6 - He completed four, so I am raising awareness to his challenge for the 23 marathons I complete after his four marathons...

Mile 7 - The biggest difference between today's marathon and last Sunday's marathon in Green Bay, at least so far, is that their is a pretty good breeze today that at least for now is cool...

Mile 8 - All rolling hills through beautiful farmland so far...

Mile 9 - Starting to hear more and more sirens...

Mile 10 - Heading into the residential areas now...

Mile 11 - Amazingly the breeze still feels quite cool. Not at all what I expected...

Mile 12 - Just a reminder, if you are following me live and want to know exactly where I am at on each days marathon, I update the blog at the BEGINNING of each mile...

Mile 13 - A very large section of this marathon is on a well paved bike trail. Nice...

Mile 14 - I suddenly find myself with no one in sight... Once I passed the half marathon point, it became just me. I see a sign that tells me I am on course and see the occasional volunteers, but as for runners there are none in sight, ahead or behind!...

Mile 15 - I am feeling excellent so far!...

Mile 16 - The organizers of this event have done an amazing job of putting water stations between water stations...

Mile 17 - That last mile turned to the south and took me directly into the the breeze, which is no longer a breeze, it has become a strong wind...

Mile 18 - And what was a cool breeze is no longer cool. It was great while it lasted!...

Mile 19 - I cannot say enough about the volunteers out here in this heat. They have all been amazing...

Mile 20 - Smooth sailing from here on in...

Mile 21 - I was just informed that the course has officially reached black flag conditions, so if you look questionable they can pull you off the course. That is so much better than canceling an event, because it may be extremely hot, and it may be mile 21, but I feel fantastic...

Mile 22 - I have not felt this in a while. The closer I get to the finish, the stronger I feel...

Mile 23 - Out of the 74 marathons in the last 74 days, this has become by far, my favorite!...

Mile 24 - I am genuinely shocked at how good I feel right now considering it "feels" like it is near 100 degrees!!! I am sure it is no where near that, but it is hot!!!...

Mile 25 - My feet are killing me but that is something I have accepted as a part of the process. That is just a simple matter of pain management!....

Mile 26 - I feel like I can float in on autopilot at this point. Truly a great event that I would highly recommend to anyone. Phenomenal community support!

73rd marathon completed in 73 days

MILE 1 - 64 degrees with highs in the eighties again today.  I would have gotten up early today to beat the heat, but tomorrow's high is 95!  So today will help me adjust!  I also got an extremely rare eleven hours (at least) of sleep (went to bed around 9:15 and got up just before 9 a.m.!!!)...

MILE 2 - I have to be on the road at 4:30 tomorrow morning for the drive to Rochester's Med-City Marathon...

MILE 3 - For me this marathon is being run for Eddie Izzard who attempted to run 27 marathons in 27 days to honor Nelson Mandela (27 yrs in prison). Today represents day 7...

MILE 4 - Aside from the high temps today, the forecast is calling for severe storms...

MILE 5 - There is a major storm system on radar to the west of here heading this way...

MILE 6 - I am really hoping that it misses us to the north...

MILE 7 - It is starting to rain already so my updates might become a little more sporadic...

MILE 8 - It stopped raining already. I have a feeling that the rain is going to be on and off today...

MILE 9 - At least the extra cloud cover is providing shade...

MILE 10 - Last nights long rest worked wonders.

MILE 11 - Stopped under bridge to update. Raining quite hard now. No risk of overheating because this rain is very cold! Maybe I should have brought a shirt!!!!...

MILES 12 & 13 - The real heavy stuff is about to hit...

WXOW Wx: Strong storms heading for La Crosse! Strong winds, hail, & torrential rainfall have been reported. Don't take chances- head inside!

MILE 14 - Lightning has forced me inside. Still running though. Treadmills do have there place in society after all...

MILE 15 - This might be some good therapy for my feet as well...

MILE 16 - Turning a lemon into lemonade. Watching a movie with my daughter until I hit 26.2 or the storm passes...

MILE 17 - Legs and feet holding up so far...

MILE 18 - This is more mentally challenging...

MILES 19, 20, 21, 22 & 23 completed

MILE 24 - I competed exactly ten miles on the treadmill and the lightning is gone, so I am venturing outside for the final three miles...

MILE 25 - Now I get to run in these incredibly high winds and build up my legs a little more!...

MILE 26 - How much more I appreciate running outside. Tomorrow I am off to the Med-City Marathon in Rochester to do battle with the heat. At least I will have lots of company!
