53rd marathon in 53 days completed (BEATING 2009 WORLD RECORD)

LaCrosse Fitness Festival Marathon. Woke up at 4:40 to loud thunder, lightning and heavy rain.

6:15 at the starting area... Heavy rain coming down. Stretched out in the back of the Bravada on a layer of five sleeping bags waiting for the 7:10 start time. Thunder rumbling in the distance...

7:35 - Back at the house!!!... UPDATE POSTED ON THE MARATHON WEBSITE...

Due to current weather, the race officials have determined it is not safe to start the event. The Half Marathon event is delayed until 8:30AM. The shuttle bus will begin at 7:30AM. There will be no Marathon Event today. Runners who signed up for the marathon will be allowed to run in the half-marathon if they choose.

Of course, I will be completing a marathon today!  That goes without saying.  My first thought was to run the route of the marathon, but since I have never participated in an event, I am going to participate in the half-marathon then run another half-marathon when I finish!

The forecast is thunderstorms all day!  So, rain will be in the equation regardless.  This will make the blogging a little more sporadic as far as updates go.  Instead of updating every mile, I will be updating when the opportunity presents itself.

Miles 1, 2, & 3 - Road closed, had to run to start line, so the half starts in mile 2 for me!...

Mile 4 - Rain stopped for now, and runmeter app stopped itself again too. I have to keep checking it now...

Mile 5 - Just checked the radar, more rain on the way...

Mile 6 - Knowing there is more rain on the way, I am enjoying every dry mile...

Mile 7 - So far, so good...

Mile 8 - Light and easy is the goal for today....

Mile 9 - I could easily get used to this kind of environment...

Mile 10 - Roads closed, water, fruit etc... Nice...

Mile 11 - People cheering!...

Mile 12 - Kahlen came out on his bike to pace me and keep me company...

Mile 13 - And I am the one lucky person that has the most amazing people cheering me on from afar...

Mile 14 - I am excited to say the least about participating in countless future events...

Mile 15 - Running the half backwards allows me to cheer for others!...

Mile 16 - I think Kahlen caught the running bug being along in the environment...

Mile 17 - The rain has held off so far...

Mile 18 - The roads are empty again...

Mile 19 - And then there was one....

Mile 20 - Now that it is just me out here again, I will have to do the best I can to hold my pace...

Mile 21 - Now it is starting to rain again...

Mile 22 - Rain is steady but light...

Mile 23 - In 2009 a 65 year old man set a world record for most marathons run on consecutive days with 52. He made headlines around the globe. Here I am, within five miles of completing my 53rd marathon in 53 days. Every mile has been logged and blogged. Yet when I finish the run, not one person will be at the finish line. My story will not even make the evening local news...

Mile 24 - Not exactly how I imagined it when I started training for this almost three years ago!!!

Mile 25 - At least it stopped raining. Considering how the day started, we hardly had any rain today...

Mile 26 - Once I found out the marathon was cancelled today because of weather and the half was still going on, but delayed until 8:30, I decided to run the half anyway as part of my 26.2 mile daily marathon. I started my run from where I parked and ran the bridge to the start line. Now, with that extra distance in, I can just follow the route back to my vehicle and head home to hit the shower then enjoy the rest of the day with the kids.

  2. Wow, you amaze me. I want to be the first to buy your book when you write about all the amazing experiences. I was the lady in the wild shorts who ran with you for a while. Keep up the good work. Chicago will blow you away with the crowds and cheering.
